Beginner's Guide To A Cheese Board

By Rittwik Naskar

A cheese board is an assortment of appetizers, fit for a house party, get-together, or homecoming. Here's a guide on the components and presentation of a cheese board.

You'll need a large wooden block and 3-4 small bowls for your spread. Keep a box of toothpick and butter knives on the side.

Serve the cheeses at room temperature. Slice your hard cheese, like cheddar, gouda, and parmesan, so your guests don't have to.

Serve your soft cheese like brie, blue cheese, and goat's cheese as is.

For the charcuterie, add slices of salami, ham, and prosciutto. Stack the salami slices and fold the prosciutto for aesthetic flair.

Use hard, chewy bread like ciabatta, sourdough, or rye bread that has a complexity of its own to bring to the board.

For differing textures, keep crackers on the board that has a neutral flavour, so that the cheeses and other accoutrements can shine.

Add olives, pickles, figs, and grapes to your bowls and place them on the cheese board.

Walnuts, almonds, quality jams and preserves, flaky sea salt, and dips can also be presented on the board.
