Baking a cake without an oven is possible using alternatives like a stovetop, microwave, or pressure cooker. Simply prepare the batter, pour it into a greased pan, and cook on low heat for 25-40 minutes, depending on the method, for a soft, fluffy result. Follow this recipe to bake a cake on stove top.
1 cup all-purpose flour (maida) 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 cup milk 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 cup yoghurt 1/4 cup boiling water
Take a heavy-bottomed non-stick pan with a lid. Grease it lightly with oil or butter and line the bottom with parchment paper. Place a metal ring or a stand at the bottom of the pan to prevent the cake from touching the base directly.
In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, milk, oil, yoghurt, and vanilla extract. Slowly add the dry ingredients stirring gently to combine.
If the batter seems too thick, you can add a little boiling water to adjust the consistency. The batter should be pourable but not too runny.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin or pan. Smooth the top with a spatula. Place the pan on the stovetop over low to medium heat. Cover with a tight-fitting lid.
Cook for 25-30 minutes, checking occasionally. Do not open the lid too often, as this will let the steam escape.
After 25 minutes, check the cake by inserting a toothpick or knife into the center. If it comes out clean, the cake is done. If not, cook for a few more minutes.
