Hailing from Maharashtra, Thecha is a fiery and flavourful condiment that is a must try for those who love a spicy kick. It is made with green chillies, garlic and peanuts and this rustic chutney is a perfect accompaniment to bhakri, rice or even as a dip for snacks. Take a look at the recipe here:
10-12 green chillies 8-10 garlic cloves 1/2 cup roasted peanuts Salt to taste 1 tbsp oil A pinch of asafoetida (hing) 1 tsp cumin seeds
Begin by roughly chopping the green chillies and peeling the garlic cloves.
Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add the garlic and sauté until golden brown
Add the chopped green chillies and a pinch of asafoetida to the pan. Saute for another 3-4 minutes until the chillies are blistered and slightly softened.
Transfer the sauted mixture to a mortar and pestle or a grinder. Add the roasted peanuts and salt. Grind coarsely to maintain a chunky texture.
Serve the thecha fresh as a side dish. It can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
