Appe is a popular South Indian snack that can be quickly whipped up for a healthy breakfast and enjoyed as a mid-meal munchie. With urad dal, rice, and spices, here’s how you can make appe.
1 cup rice 1/4 cup urad dal 1/4 cup fenugreek seeds 1/4 cup grated coconut 1 green chilli, finely chopped 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder Salt to taste Water as needed
Rinse and soak rice, urad dal, and fenugreek seeds for at least 5 hours.
Add grated coconut, green chilli, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and salt. Grind to get a smooth batter.
Add water to adjust consistency. Let the batter ferment.
Heat the appe pan or mould and pour in the batter.
Cook till the appe are golden brown. Serve with sambar or coconut chutney.
