One of the traditional dishes made for Ashtami is kale chane. Known for the high protein content and delicious taste, kale chane are often paired with fried puris and halwa for Ashtami.
1 cup kale chane (soaked overnight) 1 onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 inch ginger, grated 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 teaspoon coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder 1/4 teaspoon garam masala 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro 1/4 cup water Salt to taste Oil for cooking
Rinse and drain soaked kale chane.
Take a pressure cooker and heat some oil. Saute chopped onion till golden brown.
Stir in garlic, ginger, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and garam masala.
Once fragnant, add kale chane. Pour in water and add salt to taste.
Pressure cook kale chane for 2-3 whistles. Check if the chane are soft.
Once cooked, garnish with cilantro and serve.
