Eggs are an important component in baking and they have been traditionally used in many cake and other dessert baking recipes. But despite all this, eggs are not indispensable, as there are several alternatives that you can use if you ever find yourself in a situation where you cannot use or want to use eggs in a baking recipe.

Perfect for baking cookies and brownies. 1/4 cup of applesauce usually works as an egg replacement.

A common fruit that features in many baking recipes. Simply substitute 1/4 cup of mashed banana for an egg while making a cake.

Another staple ingredient that you can substitute eggs with. Use 1/4 cup of plain yoghurt for each egg to compensate.

One of the best egg substitutes for baking. Use 60 grams of silken tofu for each egg in the recipe.

Buttermilk gives a rich and lovely flavour to the baked goods and you should replace each egg with 1/4 cup of buttermilk.

Both work wonderfully for light baked goods. Combine 2 tablespoons of either of the starches with 3 tablespoons of water for an ideal egg substitute.
