A nourishing and delicious dal to eat with rice, this lentil recipe is tangy from the gongurra leaves while also being spicy and cosy.
¾ cup toor dal, soaked 1 onion, chopped 1 cup gongurra leaves, chopped 3 green chillies, slit 1 teaspoon turmeric Salt, to taste
2 tablespoons ghee 1 teaspoon mustard seeds 2 red chillies, broken 6-7 cloves garlic, crushed 1 pinch asafoetida ½ teaspoon red chilli powder 7-8 curry leaves
Add the soaked dal to a pressure cooker along with a cup and half of water, and the remaining ingredients.
Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles and set aside to cool slightly.
Heat the ghee in a kadhai and temper the broken red chillies, mustard seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves.
Add the red chilli powder and garlic to the mixture and pour it over the cooked dal.
Mix well to combine and adjust seasoning, if needed. Serve warm with rice.
