Maharashtrian cuisine offers a host of unique dishes from its coast to its forested interiors. And with it are a number of special breads to try. Here are a few you should know. 

Thalipeeth

A nutritious multigrain flatbread made with a blend of roasted flours, spices, and chopped vegetables, cooked on a griddle.

Bhakri

A rustic, unleavened flatbread made from jowar (sorghum) or bajra (pearl millet) flour, perfect with spicy curries.

Dhapate

A speciality in the Konkan region, this is similar to a thalipeeth, except the flours aren’t roasted, and garlic and ajwain are added to the dough.

Amboli

A fluffy and spongy rice flour and urad dal pancake, often paired with coconut chutney or spicy curries.

Malwani Vade

A deep-fried, savoury snack made from a mixture of rice flour, ground urad dal, coconut, and spices, hailing from the Malvan region.

Ghavan

Thin, delicate rice crepes, similar to an unfermented rice dosa is popular in the coastal areas of Maharashtra.

Tandlachi Bhakri

A traditional rice flour flatbread, especially enjoyed in the rural parts of Maharashtra, known for its simplicity and versatility.
