Always Forget To Soak Your Dal? Make This Instant Dal Premix At Home

Dal is one of the simplest Indian meals to make, but unless you're prepared it can be a slow process to get the desired results. With this instant premix, you can have dal ready in minutes, a quick and convenient store cupboard solution.

Ingredients

1 ½ cups toor dal ¼ cup moong dal ½ cup of coriander seeds ¼ cup of black peppercorns ¼ cup of cumin seeds 5-6 dry red chillies ½ tsp methi seeds A handful of curry leaves ½ cup of grated dry coconut 2 teaspoons of rock salt 1 tsp of dry ginger powder ½ tsp of hing ½ tsp of turmeric powder 1 tsp of oil

Step 1

Dry roast each ingredient separately until they turn slightly brown and emit a fragrant aroma.

Step 2

After roasting all the ingredients, turn off the heat. Add the salt to the hot pan, stir for a few seconds, and then mix it with the other roasted ingredients.

Allow all the roasted ingredients to cool down then transfer to a mixer or food processor jar.

Step 4

 Add turmeric powder, asafoetida, and dry ginger powder. Grind them into a fine powder.

Step 5

Transfer the Instant Dal Mix to a wide bowl and let it cool completely. Once cooled, store the mix in a clean, dry, and odour-free container.
