Aloo Bonda: A Delicious Monsoon Tea-Time Snack

Made with potatoes, gram flour and spices, this delicious snack goes well with a hot cup of tea and a spicy chutney. Prepare aloo bonda with this simple recipe and enjoy it on a rainy day.

Ingredients

4 potatoes (boiled and mashed), 1 tbsp oil+ for frying, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp urad dal, ¼ tsp turmeric powder, 3-4 green chillies, 2-inch ginger, 1 onion, salt to taste, ½ bunch fresh coriander leaves, for the batter: 1 cup gram flour, 1 tsp rice flour, ¼ tsp red chilli powder, ¼ tsp turmeric powder, salt to taste

Step 1

Heat one tsp of oil in a non-stick pan, add mustard, urad dal, turmeric powder, green chillies, ginger and onion and sauté for two minutes.

Add potatoes, salt and coriander leaves and mix well. Divide into equal portions and roll into balls.

Step 3

Mix together besan, rice flour, chilli powder, turmeric, salt and a little water to make a thick and smooth batter.

Step 4

Heat oil in a kadai, dip the potato balls in the batter and slide into the hot oil and deep fry till golden brown in colour. Drain on absorbent paper. Serve hot.
