On July 7, 2024, devotees will gather in Puri to participate in the annual Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival). If you are travelling to Odisha in the midst of this festival, here are some sweets that you must indulge in.

Kora Khai

One of the sweets offered to Lord Lingaraj and Lord Jagannath is Kora Khai. It is prepared using jaggery, khai, ghee, puffed rice, and other spices. 

Chhena Gaja

Chhena gaja is a close cousin of rasgulla. But unlike sugar-dipped rasgulla, it is squeezed and served, Therefore, you can notice crystallisation on its surface.

Chhena Poda

Chhena poda is like a desi cheesecake made with sugar and chhena. The sweet concoction is later burnt or baked to get the texture and colour.

Mathapuli

Made with sugar syrup and urad dal, mathapuli is a one-of-a-kind dessert found in certain parts of Odisha like Banapur, Tangi, and Chandapur.
