Adrak Chai: The Perfect Soothing Drink For The Monsoon

Are the rains making you crave the comfort of ginger tea? The warm beverage is made by brewing black tea with freshly grated ginger. Known for its spicy, soothing flavour, it’s usually enjoyed with milk and sugar. This tea is also perfect for relieving colds, boosting digestion.

Ingredients

1 ½ cups water 1 ½ tsp loose black tea 1 inch fresh ginger 1 ½ cups milk 2 tsp sugar A pinch of cardamom or cinnamon

Step 1

In a saucepan, bring 1 ½ cups of water to a boil. Add the grated or crushed ginger and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes.

Step 2

Add the loose black tea to the boiling water and let it brew for another 2-3 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.

Step 3

Pour in the milk and bring the tea to a boil again. Let it simmer for a minute or two. Add sugar, stirring until it dissolves. 

Indian chai in glass cups with metal kettle and other masalas to make the tea.

Step 4

Strain the tea into cups using a fine mesh strainer to remove the ginger and tea leaves.

Step 5

Add a pinch of ground cardamom or cinnamon to enhance the flavour of your adrak chai.
