Chom Chom is a traditional Bengali sweet that is reserved for special occasions. This syrupy dessert is made using chenna and is often served in different colours and with desiccated coconut.
1-litre full-fat milk 2 tbsp lemon juice 1 cup sugar 3 cups water 1/2 tsp cardamom powder Food coloring (optional) Desiccated coconut (for coating)
To make chenna, boil milk, add lemon juice to cause it to curdle, and then filter.
Shape chenna into little ovals after kneading till smooth.
Bring water and sugar to a boil, then stir in food colouring and cardamom.
Cook the chenna ovals in the syrup for 15 to 20 minutes. Garnish with desiccated coconut after letting it cool.
