Grinding coffee beans at home allows you to experiment with various flavoured coffees. With the right techniques and equipment, you can achieve the professional coffee shop coffee. Take a look at the 8 tips:
A good quality burr grinder provides a consistent grind size. This is crucial for extracting maximum flavours from coffee beans.
This depends upon the brewing method you’re using. For instance, for expresso you need fine grind. Adjusting the grind size can significantly impact the taste of your coffee.
Grinding just before you’re ready for brewing helps to preserve the freshness and aroma of the coffee. Besides, it also maintains the aroma and prevent oxidation.
As per the general guideline, start with a ratio of 1:16 (I part coffee and 16 parts water) and adjust according to your preference.
While grinding it, pulse the grinder in short bursts rather than continuously running it. This prevents the coffee from over heating which negatively affect the flavour.
Regularly clean your grinder to remove any residue of coffee oils and buildup. This ensures the coffee flavours don’t mix.
A perfect barista cup of coffee involves lot of experimentation. Adjust the grind size and extraction time to tune in the strength of your brew.
Store coffee beans in airtight container in cool place. Avoid exposure to air, moisture and sunlight.
