Treat yourself to a healthy pasta by rolling out fresh dough infused with fibre and vitamin-rich ingredients. Here are some pasta dough variations made with nourishing foods that may make it easier to get kids to eat their veggies!
Make a mix of egg and steamed spinach and use this blend to roll out the pasta dough. Add whole wheat instead of full white flour for a healthier version.
Use grated carrots to add a bit of sweetness to the pasta dough. Carrots will also give the dough a slightly reddish-orange tinge, that would contrast well with a white Alfredo.
Beetroot juice is an excellent ingredient to add to pasta for its nutritious value and its deep purple hues. The taste of beetroot in pasta dough pairs nicely with a tangy tomato sauce.
Use whole wheat flour instead of refined white flour which is harder to process. Whole wheat pasta has a distinct taste of its own that pairs well with an Arrabbiata.
If you want to do away with white flour, use semolina flour or durum wheat as a substitute and add some steamed spinach to the mix for a low-calorie option.
Simply blend veggies like spinach, carrots and tomatoes into a juice and use this mix instead of water to knead the pasta dough for a deeply healthy variation.
This is a healthy alternative sans eggs so you can opt for semolina or durum wheat flour and add a dash of sea salt for just a bit of taste.
Add tomato puree or blanched tomato without the skin into the pasta dough. Adjust the quantity of water required for kneading otherwise the dough might get watery.
