It’s never easy getting rid of pesky fruit flies which are easily attracted to anything remotely wet or raw in your kitchen. Instead of spending on a pricey repellent, use easy DIY hacks that can help you keep your kitchen clean

Fill a small bowl with apple cider vinegar. Add a few drops of dish soap and mix well. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and poke small holes in it. It can attract fruit flies at one place so you can get rid of them

Keep kitchen surfaces, especially those where fruits and vegetables are stored, clean and free of spills. Fruit flies are attracted to fermenting substances, so eliminating potential food sources can help reduce their numbers

Place a small amount of red wine in a jar or glass. Cover the opening with plastic wrap and secure it with a rubber band. Poke a few holes in the plastic wrap. Fruit flies are attracted to the wine and will get trapped

Make a solution of water and a few drops of essential oils such as eucalyptus, tea tree, or lavender. Spray this solution around areas where fruit flies are present. The strong scent can deter them

Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. Add a few drops of dish soap and shake well. Spray this solution on surfaces where fruit flies are present.

Plant herbs like basil, mint, and rosemary in and around your kitchen, if possible. These herbs have natural repellent properties and can help you get rid of them

Fill a bowl with a mixture of water and a few drops of dish soap. Fruit flies will be attracted to the soapy water and drown. You can keep a bowl of dish soap handy in your kitchen at all times

Place a piece of overripe fruit in a bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Poke small holes in the wrap. The fruit flies will be attracted to the overripe fruit and you can throw it away
