We Indians love our carbohydrates, but overconsumption and incorrect consumption can cause many health issues including diabetes and obesity. Here are a few tips you need to correct the pattern for better health.
Opt for whole grain carbohydrates such as whole wheat, brown rice and oats, which are healthier than refined grains.
Be mindful of portion sizes when consuming carbohydrates and never, ever, overeat them.
Incorporate fiber-rich carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains.
Be cautious of added sugars present in processed and packaged foods and always pick fresh carbs.
Choose healthy cooking methods such as steaming, baking, grilling, or sautéing instead of deep-frying.
Don’t load carbs on carbs. Pair your carbs with lean proteins, vegetables and healthy fats.
Pay attention to your body's hunger and fullness cues. Eat until you feel satisfied, but not overly stuffed.
