Curry leaves are crucial to preparing dishes, especially in Maharashtrian, Gujarati, and South India. They add a robust flavour to tempering and are considered nutritious for consumption. Here are a few tips to store them in your fridge.
Always keep the leaves in an airtight container lined so that moisture, odour, and germs cannot seep inside.
Don’t wash the leaves before storing them. Always store them dry and wash them right before use. This will prolong their shelf life.
If you like the flavour of curry leaves, you can also grind them and turn them into a paste. You can freeze this paste and store curry leaves as long as you want.
If you wash them before storing them, always ensure that the leaves are left to dry. Once they are dry, add them to the container.
While storing curry leaves, always use tissues so that the excess moisture can be absorbed. It will keep the leaves fresh.
Instead of storing casually in the refrigerator, you can also store the curry leaves in the freezer. But make sure to defrost a small batch before use.
Whenever you try to extract leaves from the refrigerator, always use fresh and dry spoons instead of hands. It will prevent contamination.
