Cooking with olive oil can enhance the flavour and nutritional value of your dishes. Follow these tips to use it well.
It is Important to choose the right olive for the right purpose. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is best used for drizzling over dishes, salad dressings, and low-heat cooking.
Virgin Olive Oil is suitable for medium-heat cooking and baking. For high-heat cooking, use light or refined olive oil.
Olive oil has a moderate smoke point, ranging from 190°C for extra virgin to about 240°C for refined olive oil. Avoid heating olive oil to its smoke point, as it can degrade the oil and produce harmful compounds.
Store olive oil in a cool, dark place away from heat and light to prevent oxidation and rancidity
Purchase olive oil in dark glass bottles to protect it from light exposure. Ensure the bottle is sealed to minimise air exposure.
Olive oil has a shelf life of about 18-24 months from the date of bottling. Check the best-before date on the bottle and use it within a few months of opening it
While olive oil is healthy, it is still calorie-dense. Use it in moderation.
