Cooking tandoori food during the summer months can be a challenge because of the raised temperature along with oven heat as the tandoor is always kept outdoors. But that doesn't mean you have to stop enjoying tandoori cuisine, because, with some tips, you can make delicious tandoori food during the summer months too while avoiding the heatwaves.
To avoid the hottest time of the day, try to prepare tandoori foods in the early morning or late evening.
Before cooking, marinate your meats or veggies for tandoori meals and store them in the refrigerator. This reduces the amount of time needed for preparation in the heat while also improving flavour.
If feasible, use an outside grill rather than a tandoor oven. In comparison to ovens, grills can cook food uniformly and with a comparable smokey flavour while producing less interior heat.
Opt for smaller cuts of meat or vegetables that cook quickly, reducing the overall cooking time and heat exposure.
Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the heat while cooking outdoors. Wear appropriate clothing, use sunscreen, and take breaks in a cool area as needed.
Pair tandoori dishes with lighter sides like salads, yoghurt-based dips, or chilled beverages to complement the summer weather.
Keep a close eye on the cooking temperature to avoid overheating the grill or oven. Adjust heat levels as needed.
