From mouthwatering basundi to melt-in-the-mouth golpapdi, the desserts of Gujarat beckon dessert lovers everywhere. Let’s explore some of the most famous sweet dishes of Gujarat.
Gujarati puran poli is a wheat-based flatbread that’s typically stuffed with a sweetened tuvar dal, jaggery and cardamom filling.
Doodh pak is a variety of rice pudding crafted from milk, sugar, rice, saffron, nuts, and cardamom. This enriching dessert is usually relished with crispy deep-fried puris.
This finger-licking milk-infused dessert is crafted from sweetened condensed milk, plus cardamom and saffron. A fixture in traditional Gujarati thalis, this treat is often garnished with crunchy nuts.
A staple in Gujarati as well as Maharashtrian cuisine, shrikhand is a sweet dish that’s prepared from strained yoghurt. Saffron, cardamom powder, and sugar also go into making this creamy delicacy.
Also known as “sukhdi,” golpapdi is a wheat flour, ghee, and jaggery-based dish with a fudge-like consistency. It is savoured as a snack throughout Gujarat, and is also prepared on special occasions.
