Garlic is an essential vegetable added to recipes to infuse them with earthy tones. It takes the flavour profile up a notch. Here is how you can grow it in your kitchen garden without much hassle.
You must pick fresh and disease-free cloves. You can also purchase good-quality garlic seeds from the local store.
To grow garlic, you must keep the soil drained and pick a sunny location for the pot. Add manure and compost.
Plant each clove with a pointy side up, at least 2-3 inches into the soil. Each clove should be 6-8 inches apart.
Keep the soil moist but not soggy. You should also mulch the soil to suppress weeds and retain its moisture.
Once the plant starts growing, ensure you water the soil. If you witness weeds growing out of the soil, pluck them out.
Once the harvest is ready, dig the garlic bulbs. Remove the excess oil and use it in your kitchen.
You can also boil garlic in olive oil and store it in an airtight container for months. You can use the same bulbs to grow more garlic.
