Dahi Bhalla is a popular Indian street snack made with yoghurt, spices, and a fried dumpling. Although it is a snack that people of all ages cherish, it isn't the healthiest, but that doesn't mean you cannot enjoy dahi bhalla anymore because, with these tips, you can make your favourite snack healthier.
Instead of using refined lentil flour, grind whole urad dal at home to retain more fibre and nutrients.
Consider baking or air-frying the lentil dumplings instead of deep-frying them to reduce oil absorption.
Use low-fat or Greek yoghurt instead of full-fat yoghurt to reduce the overall calorie and fat content of the dish.
Use natural sweeteners like honey or stevia instead of sugar in the yoghurt mixture to cut down on added sugars.
Incorporate grated vegetables like carrots, cucumber, or spinach into the lentil batter for added nutrition and fibre.
Make your own chutneys using fresh ingredients and less sugar to control the number of added sugars and preservatives.
Serve smaller portions of Dahi Bhalla to avoid overeating and balance the calorie intake.
