Keeping fresh produce from going bad is essential to minimise waste and ensure that you can enjoy their flavours and nutritional benefits for as long as possible. Here are seven simple storage tips to help you keep your produce fresh.
Store fruits and vegetables separately to prevent them from ripening or spoiling faster due to the release of ethylene gas.
Keep leafy greens and herbs fresh by wrapping them in a damp paper towel and placing them in a resealable bag in the refrigerator.
Avoid washing fruits and vegetables until you're ready to eat them; excess moisture can promote mold growth.
Place mushrooms in a paper bag instead of a plastic container to allow for better airflow and prevent moisture buildup.
Keep tomatoes at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, as refrigeration can affect their texture and flavor.
Store fresh herbs like parsley and cilantro in a glass of water, covering them loosely with a plastic bag, and refrigerate for longer shelf life.
Wrap the stems of bananas with plastic wrap to slow down the ripening process.
