It is a common mistake to spill salt more than usual in dishes while you cook. Here are seven hacks that you can use to make your over-salty dishes good to eat without throwing the food out.

The most common thing you can do is increase the quantity of other ingredients in the dish (except salt) to dilute the saltiness. This is especially effective in soups, stews, and casseroles.

You can also make a larger batch of the dish without adding more salt. This effectively dilutes the overall salt content. This is for the items to which you can't add more ingredients.

If you've added salty broth, add more unsalted broth or water to balance it up. More food is always better than wasting food.

Potatoes, rice, pasta, and other starchy foods can absorb excess salt. Adding more of these ingredients to balance the flavours can be useful.

Add a small amount of sugar, honey, or maple syrup gradually, tasting as you go. The taste will be mellow if the dish is spicy, but it is doable.
