As the monsoon has been reviving the fields in South India, it is time to explore traditional fried snacks that pair well with hot tea or filter coffee. Here are a few that are a must-try no matter where you live.

Paruppu Vadai

Paruppu vadai is made using chana dal. The crispy delights are seasoned with green chillies, onions, and curry leaves. 

Bhajji

Bhajji or pakora are prepared by dipping vegetables like eggplants, potatoes, spinach, and onions in a seasoned mixture of besan and deep-frying them.

Medu Vada

Medu vada are crispy and soft fritters made using urad dal batter. They are seasoned green chillies, black pepper, and curry leaves.

Pazhampori

Pazhampori or banana fritters are prepared by adding banana to a spiced mixture of chickpea and rice flour. Deep fry them until crispy.

Ribbon Pakora

This snack is made by deep-drying thick batter prepared by seasoning chickpea and rice flour using hing and red chilli powder. 

Murukku

Murukku is a crunchy deep-fried snack. Urad dal and rice flour are seasoned with sesame seeds, cumin seeds, and hing. 

Banana Chips

One of the best deep-fried South Indian snacks is banana chips. They are seasoned with salt, black pepper, and peri peri spice mix.
