It seems that adding food to boiling water is a quick fix to cook them faster, but you might be making a big mistake. It can compromise the nutritional value and texture, and the process can make a few ingredients leech harmful ingredients in the water. Here is a list of food items that you must never put in boiling water.

Potatoes With Skin

Adding whole potatoes to boiling water can cause a loss of vitamin C. It is better to peel and then add potatoes to boiling water.

Tea Leaves

Adding tea leaves to boiling water can leave the concoction with a bitter taste. Instead of boiling water, you must always fold in tea leaves in hot water.

Raw Flour

If you directly add raw flour to boiling water, you will notice lumps forming in no time. Always mix the flour with cold water, fold it in hot water, and stir continuously.

Meat With Bones

Adding meat with bones to a pan of hot boiling water can leech impurities, contaminate the liquid, and make it appear cloudy. Allow meat with bones to simmer for a long time.

Olive Oil

Adding olive oil to boiling water can break it down. The insoluble liquid will lose its flavour and nutritional properties. You should rather drizzle it over your dishes.

Vegetables

If you are boiling vegetables for long, they are likely to lose their texture and nutritional value. Blanching or simmering is a better alternative for cooking them.

Eggs With Shell

Adding whole eggs in boiling water increases the risks of them cracking and releasing bacteria into the solution. Add them to cold water and bring it to a boil.
