Besan, also known as gram flour or chickpea flour is a common sight in Indian kitchens. But with dishes like pakoras and chillas, it is normal to question, “Is besan good for weight loss?” The short answer is yes, and here’s why.

A 100-gram besan contains around 350 calories, which is way less than any other flour like wheat and maida. This makes it a good alternative if you’re trying to lose weight.

Besan is a good source of protein; for 100 grams of besan, you get 20 grams of protein. Thus, it reduces the day-long cravings and promotes satiety.

If you deal with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease, besan offers a healthy, flour-based alternative. And you wouldn’t have to worry about it increasing your weight.

Besan also has a high fibre content. Fibre adds bulk to your diet without adding calories, promoting a feeling of fullness and reducing hunger, thereby helping you lose weight.

Due to the high fibre content and a good source of other nutrients like magnesium and vitamin B, besan also boosts metabolism, which helps in weight reduction.

Besan also has a low glycemic index, which implies that after you consume besan, your blood sugar levels don’t spike up, thus preventing energy crashes and keeping you full.
