Smooth homemade softies are a great summer alternative; they can easily be made with seasonal fruits and can be stored for days. The best part is you don't need heavy and fatty cream to make this! Let's look at some pointers that can help.
Selecting the right fruits is crucial for a smooth and flavorful softy. Use fruits that have a high water content and natural sweetness, such as bananas, mangoes, berries, and peaches. These fruits blend well and provide a creamy texture without the need for cream.
To achieve the best texture, freeze your fruits properly before blending. Cut the fruits into small pieces and spread them out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze them in a single layer to prevent clumping. Once frozen, transfer the fruit pieces to an airtight container or freezer bag.
A high-powered blender or food processor is essential for making a smooth and creamy fruit softy. The powerful motor can handle frozen fruits easily and blend them into a soft, ice cream-like consistency. Blend the fruits in short bursts and scrape down the sides as needed.
While blending, add a small amount of liquid to help the process. Use fruit juice, coconut water, almond milk, or any other plant-based milk. Start with a few tablespoons and add more as needed to achieve the desired consistency. Be careful not to add too much liquid, as it can make the softy too runny.
If your fruits are not sweet enough, consider adding natural sweeteners to enhance the flavor. Options include honey, agave syrup, maple syrup, or dates. Start with a small amount and adjust to taste. Remember that some fruits, like bananas and mangoes, are naturally sweet
Fruit softy is best enjoyed immediately after blending for the best texture. If you need to store it, transfer the softy to an airtight container and freeze. When ready to serve, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly before scooping.
