Having boiled potatoes in the refrigerator is the best kitchen hack. You can make a variety of dishes in a jiffy. But what would you do if you didn’t have a pressure cooker? Here is how you can still boil potatoes with perfection.
Rinse the potatoes and peel off their skins. Dice them into cubes or leave them as they are, depending on what you will make later.
Take a heavy bottom pot and fill it with water. Let the liquid come to a boil before you add potatoes to it.
Sprinkle salt over the potatoes while they are boiling. This way, the vegetables will absorb the seasoning well.
Let the potatoes simmer in the pan on medium heat. Cover the pot with a lid for at least 5-6 minutes.
If you are cooking diced potatoes, 5-6 minutes of simmering might be enough. For whole potatoes, you might need 10-12 minutes.
Use a fork or sharp knife to check the potatoes. If the edges glide smoothly across a potato or cube, the rest of them are also done.
Drain the excess water and keep the potatoes aside to cool off before working with them. You can also refrigerate them to use later.
