A freshly baked apple pie loaded with cinnamon and sugar is one of the few priceless treats that one can relish during the winters, when crisp apples are in season. While there is nothing that the classic apple pie does wrong, here’s how you can enhance the enjoyment of breaking into a slice without too much effort.

Use a variety of apples to balance the sweetness and tartness of your pie filling, as well as for texture and flavour.

Instead of dumping the filling into a pie crust, it is ideal to layer your slices of apple as a way of creating fewer air pockets and tightly packed stuffing.

Before adding in the filling, brush the inside of your pie crust with an egg wash so that it holds form once the pie has finished baking.

Besides the use of cinnamon, add a touch of ground nutmeg or cloves, or even some lemon zest to mix with your apple filling.

Once your pie is out of the oven, drizzle a generous amount of salted caramel on top or pile on the whipped cream to make it extra decadent.
