Spray With Cooking Oil

Spraying the grater with cooking oil is a helpful hack to prevent cheese from sticking and ensure smoother grating. Opt for a neutral-flavored cooking oil such as vegetable oil or canola oil.

Place It Horizontally

Instead of placing them up and down turn it on its side. So you can shred cheese using horizontal movements, not vertical which allows you to use your body weight for added pressure, effectively making shredding easier.

Use It To Prep Microgreens

You can de-stem you herbs with a grater. Use a cheese grater to finely chop fresh herbs like parsley, cilantro, or basil. Simply run the herbs across the fine side of the grater to create uniformly chopped herbs for seasoning soups, salads, pasta dishes, or garnishing plates.

Use It To Make Zests

The fine side of a cheese grater is perfect for zesting citrus fruits like lemons, limes, and oranges. Zest adds bright flavor to dishes without the bitterness of the pith, enhancing everything from baked goods to savory sauces.

Soften Your Butter

If you need softened butter for baking but forgot to take it out of the fridge in advance, use a cheese grater to quickly soften it. Grate cold butter directly into your mixing bowl, and it will come to room temperature much faster than if left in a solid block.
