If brushing or flossing is leading to bleeding gums, it can be indicative of several underlying causes like vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Here are some foods that can help to reduce bleeding gums and boost overall oral hygiene.
Apricots are rich in beta-carotene which converts into vitamin A on being absorbed by the body. Fresh and dried apricots are excellent sources for overcoming vitamin A deficiency which can many times cause bleeding gums.
Citrus fruits like oranges and lemons promote healing functions and boost the immune system. Increasing vitamin C intake will strengthen connective tissues which bind gums together and reduce bleeding.
Catechin is an antioxidant present in green tea which fends off harmful bacteria. This helps to reduce a general tendency of contracting oral infections and lessens the risk of bleeding gums.
Milk is a complete source of fat and protein. It also contains calcium which fortifies tooth enamel and gum health. Having a glass of milk every day is a good way to strengthen overall gum health.
Chewing on raw vegetables will improve blood circulation in gums. Increased blood circulation will reduce bleeding and inflammation, leading to healthy and strong gums.
