Even though processed foods lack nutrition, it may be unlikely that you will give them up totally. Limiting the quantity of ultra-processed foods, which are the most processed of all foods, might be a more realistic goal. Here are some tips that you can follow to achieve that:

Foods created using industrial-scale methods and ingredients that you might not be familiar with or would not use in your own cooking are deemed ultra-processed. Ultra-processed meals are often high in chemicals, unhealthy fats, and sugars and lacking in nutrients that are beneficial to your body.

Try choosing whole fruit as an alternative to fruit juice or fruit products like jam or apple juice, as they are often loaded with preservatives and added sugar.

If you find yourself reaching for more processed meals on the weekends, consider planning your workday snacks to avoid overconsumption.

For breakfast, consider eating one or two whole eggs rather than cereal or sugar-filled yoghurt. If you consume eggs, you will feel satisfied until lunchtime.

You don't have to give up every dish you like. Make your own homemade favourites to replace packaged food.

Even goods labelled as vegan, organic, or gluten-free are not always nutritious or unprocessed. Analyse nutrition labels and use critical thinking.
