Monsoon brings with it a high level of humidity, which can lead to vegetables like onions rotting quickly. To ensure your onions stay fresh and usable, follow these simple tips that will help you avoid rotting and preserve their quality throughout the rainy season.

Store in a cool, dry place

Keep your onions in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and moisture to prevent them from getting damp and rotting.

Use a mesh bag or basket

Opt for breathable storage containers like mesh bags or baskets instead of plastic bags, which can trap moisture and accelerate spoilage.

Don't wash before storing

Avoid washing onions before storing them, as moisture can lead to bacterial growth and spoilage. Clean them only when you're ready to use them.

Check regularly for signs of decay

Keep an eye on your onions and remove any that show signs of soft spots, mold, or rot to prevent further spoilage.

Store away from fruits

Store onions separately from fruits, as fruits release ethylene gas, which can cause onions to ripen and spoil faster.
