Fruits and vegetables are foods that are best consumed fresh as they can go bad even if stored in the right conditions. However, did you know there are certain fruits and veggies that shouldn’t be stored together?
Onions and potatoes shouldn’t be stored together as the ethylene gas produced by onions can cause potatoes to sprout and spoil, and the moisture present in potatoes can cause onions to become mouldy.
The ripening process of both these vegetables can significantly get effected if stored together. Cucumbers have a high moisture content and can cause tomatoes to spoil more quickly.
Just like onions, apples too release ethylene gas. This can cause carrots to ripen and spoil faster. It can also result in the carrots losing their crisp texture.
Peaches should never be stored with bananas as the ethylene emitted by bananas will cause the peaches to ripen faster than usual.
Blueberries are more delicate and when stored, the weight of the strawberries can crush the blueberries, causing them to spoil more quickly.
