Litchi is a tropical fruit known for its sweet and aromatic flavour. It has a short shelf like, making proper storage essential to extend its freshness. To store litchi for a longer period, start by selecting ripe, firm and unblemished fruits. Here are right effective ways to store litchi for longer time:
The simplest method is to store litchis in the refrigerator. Place the unpeeled fruits in a plastic bag with small holes for ventilation. This helps retain moisture and prevents the fruit from drying out. Litchis can stay fresh for up to two weeks this way.
For longer storage, freezing is a great option. Peel and de-seed the litchis, then place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Transfer the frozen litchis to an airtight container or freezer bag. Frozen litchis can last for up to six months, perfect for off-season enjoyment.
Drying litchis converts them into long-lasting dried fruit. Peel and de-seed the litchis, then use an oven set to low heat to dry them out. Store the dried litchis in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. This method preserves them for several months
Preserve litchis by canning them in syrup. Peel and de-seed the litchis, then pack them into sterilised jars and cover with a hot sugar syrup. Seal the jars and process them in a water bath. Properly canned litchis can last up to a year.
For the freshest storage, use a vacuum sealer. Peel and de-seed the litchis, place them in a vacuum seal bag, and use the vacuum sealer to remove all the air. Store the vacuum-sealed bags in the refrigerator or freezer to keep litchis fresh for an extended period.
