Brass utensils add a traditional touch to kitchens but can tarnish over time. Keeping them shiny and clean doesn’t have to be a hassle with these five simple methods using common household items.

Lemon and Salt Scrub

Cut a lemon in half, dip it in salt, and rub it on the brass surface. The acidity of the lemon and the abrasive salt work together to remove tarnish and stains effectively.

Vinegar and Baking Soda Paste

Mix equal parts vinegar and baking soda into a paste. Apply to the brass, leave for 10 minutes, and scrub with a soft cloth to restore its shine.

Flour, Salt, and Vinegar Paste

Combine flour, salt, and vinegar into a paste. Apply, leave for an hour, then rinse. This gentle mix is perfect for delicate brass items.

Tomato Ketchup

Coat the utensil with ketchup, let it sit for 15 minutes, then wipe it off. The acidity in tomatoes helps dissolve tarnish.

Brass Cleaner

For stubborn stains, use a specialised brass cleaner. Follow the instructions for the best results.
