Whether you're looking for healthy comfort food or trying to ward off the winter chills, a bowl of piping hot soup is almost always the remedy. All you need to do is throw in some veggies, meat, herbs and spices to prepare a delicious concoction in just a matter of a few minutes. The best part about soup is its versatility. Whether it's a broth-based soup or a thick and creamy one, they all taste equally divine! While we are familiar with classic soups such as sweet corn, tomato, manchow, hot and sour and so on, there is so much more to explore. Here are 5 delicious soups of northeast India.

Manipur’s Chi Al Meh is your regular vegetable soup. For Chi Al Meh, you need chopped onions, capsicum, mushrooms, and spinach. Once chopped, heat a pan and add ginger paste. Add chilies, soy sauce and salt. Add all the veggies and add water to the mixture. Put a lid on the pan and boil the mixture for 10 minutes. Serve hot.

This soup has its roots in Tibet, but it is also the most popular soup in North East India. Thukpa is a combination of Tibetan-style noodles with vegetables or chicken stew in clear soup. It is somewhat spicy and also has several variations such as gyathuk, pathug, bakthu and thenthuk, which is made of flat noodles.

Laksa is a spicy noodle dish popular in Asia, especially Assam. Laksa consists of various types of noodles, most commonly thick rice noodles, with toppings such as chicken, prawn or fish.
It is flavored with a local herb pardi, with a flavor similar to celery as well as other green leaf vegetables, particular to the region.

Avgolemono is a Greek lemon-egg sauce. It is made with egg yolks, lemon and warm broth. This lemon chicken soup gets its name from that traditional Greek sauce. Avgolemono soup is traditionally made with either rice or orzo, seasoned with plenty of fresh lemon juice, and then thickened up using eggs.
