Short of going to philadelphia, we don't think there is a better way to enjoy a cheese steak than making this top round cheese steak recipe at home Cheese steaks are an incredibly delicious sandwich made from sauted veggies, sliced and seared beef, and, of course, ooey gooey melted cheese. There are many variations on the recipe, so we wanted to share our staple recipe that uses beef top round steak, and simple ingredients to deliver a sandwich that is easy to make at home. There are a number of different steaks that you can use for a cheese steak, but we recommend making a top round cheese steak. Top round steaks are a lean cut of beef that are very affordable. While they aren't very tender, it doesn't matter for this recipe since we are slicing the beef into thin strips before cooking them. What the steaks do have though is a great, rich flavor that shines in this sandwich. They're also a very nice uniform shape that makes them easy to slice, which is key to this recipe. If you don't like top round cheese steak, or are looking for a little higher quality of steak, you can also use top butt/top sirloin steaks, or thinly sliced ribeyes for an over the top good cheese steak We tried to keep this recipe pretty basic, but there are some other additions you can easily make to customize our basic top round cheese steak. First, you can use different cheeses. Provolone is common (although we like the melt of mozzarella a bit more) and totally fine for this recipe.
