Malpua, for those untouched by the phenomenon, is a deep-fried Indian pancake that is dripping of sugar syrup. It is believed that the malpua gets its name from the apupa which finds traces in 3000 year old Vedic scriptures. A simple combination of honey and barley has become a delectable dessert today. It is popular in Bihari and Bengali cultures and is also treated as the oldest dessert of India. The crunchy malpua is often served with a slathering of rabdi. The malpua is also one of the basic desserts of festivities like Holi. Filled with nuts, khoya and all things delicious, malpua is savoured across the country.
