Puran Poli is a very popular traditional Maharashtrian dish. It is basically a flatbread made of wheat flour stuffed with sweet lentils. In the Marathi language, 'Puran' means sweet stuffing, and 'poli' means bread. It is made of lentils and jaggery mixture cooked in ghee and filled between two thin sheets of dough then pan-fried in ghee. Puran Poli is generally made during auspicious festivals like Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, or to celebrate little achievements at home. It is also known by the names vedmi, bobbatlu, obbattu, holige, poli and is also popular in many other Indian states. Though it is considered a festive dish, it can be made and served as dessert with the main course as well. One can enjoy it even when it's not hotly served, which does not affect the taste of the dish at all. It's best eaten or served with a lot of ghee, but it also goes well with the pickle recipe. Also, it is a good snack option for people with a sweet tooth.
