One of Kerala’s favourite traditional snacks, Parippu Vada is all things crunchy, spicy and delicious. Alternatively called dal vada, it’s a type of fritters made using lentils, most often the chana dal (also known as Bengal gram or split chickpea lentils) and toor dal (also called split pigeon peas). Parippu Vada is equally famous in other parts of south India as a preferred tea time snack. Rich in protein and magnesium, chana dal is said to do wonders for your skin. It aids in reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
The term parippu or paruppu translates to lentils. Parippu Vada’s signature nutty texture and crispy taste, complemented by onions, herbs and a variety of spices are what people love the most about this homely snac. These lend an amazing flavour to the fritters.
