Litti Chokha is an authentic Bihari dish that comprises of a ball of sattu which is baked along with mashed potatoes and brinjal. The litti is believed to have origins in the Magadh empire. The popular summer crops of the region, wheat and barley, were eaten. Litti was made from sattu which is available in abundance in these regions. Later on, the Mughals also ate it with shorbas and payas. This delicious combination was transformed into litti and chokha due to the emirgration of Biharis to countries like Trinidad. Litti chokha is a staple meal that has its roots in Bihar. It's fanfare is also spread across Jharkhand and several eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. Since sattu goes into the making of litti and too much oil is not used in its preparation, it can be seen as a healthy dishl. Litti Chokha Both are either roasted or baked. Desi ghee adds to its calories but you can choose to avoid it or use a little bit of it. Also, pure desi ghee comes with its own set of health benefits unlike your refined oils.
