This finger licking condiment that makes its presence be it in the form of sweet, tangy, sour or mix of all, Chutney’s are surely a burst of flavour and also enhances the taste of a dish. From coriander chutney, garlic chutney, sweet-sour date, to elephant apple, to tomato, to wild berries there are almost more than 100 varieties of chutney’s that one can find in Indian cuisine. 

The dish gets it’s name from the Sanskrit word chaatni which translates to “to lick”. This accompaniment that requires no fuel to be prepared, is almost can be made by things in your backyard. It’s interesting how in most reginal thali the presence of Chatni is a must and one of the most prominent happens to be dhaniya pudina chutney that goes great with all kind of snacks. This chutney is made from fresh coriander and mint leaves along with green chillies, ginger and lemon and a dash of sugar that gives this chutney a unique flavor.
