Halwa is derived from the Arabic word hulw which means something sweet. Halwa is one of the most common and quickest Indian desserts that can be whipped up in no time. Although halwa is quite prevalent in our country, so much so that it is made as a holy offering in several Indian religions too, the roots of halwa lie elsewhere. It is believed that the Turks are responsible for the creation of halwa. The halwa was a simple mix of sesame seeds which are ground and mixed with honey. Today, halwa is made from wheat, sooji, gajar, moong dal and what not. This one is a quick and easy dessert prepared with milk and bread. Bread halwa is a variation of halwa made with bread slices. To make bread halwa, bread cubes are first fried or roasted in ghee and later cooked with milk and sugar. This interesting fusion halwa recipe is quite a treat to the taste buds.
