This 16th century sweet, that finds its mention in Medieval Bengali Literature, it’s mostly the Portuguese influence that has given the final version of this modern chena based sweet called Sandesh. Made with cottage cheese or chena, this sweet sees many variations like made with chocolate, mango, strawberry, Plain Jalbhara, gur, and more.
This sweet sees a fine balance of sugar or jaggery and chena. Though using curdled milk was a taboo back in the days but supposed y Sandesh was an exception, due to the European settlers or let’s say mainly the Portuguese.
