Every kid has a special inclination towards sweets and desserts. It is almost rare to find a kid who thinks otherwise. Jellies and puddings light up their face like nothing else. Imagine how happy would it make them if the jelly tasted of cranberry? And that sweet-sour taste came from a pudding? And if that looked like a cute bunny? Well, this recipe is a sure-shot way to make an easy way into your kids’ hearts, through their stomachs.
However, the meaning of the word ‘pudding’ is not the same on every continent. In Europe, it does not necessarily mean a dessert. Several puddings in Europe as meat-based. In America, however, the term has emerged to be called a dessert. No meat is used in America. In India too, pudding has a creamy, sweet meaning to it, not a meaty one.
History Of Puddings
It would sound unpleasant but puddings might actually have been meat-based in the older times. There is no definitive history to tell where the dish came from. But most certainly, they had meat in them. The traces of the dish can be dated back to 1596. In a cooking book, The Good Housewife’s Jewel, Thomas Dalton has given several recipes for Puddings. It includes black pudding and haggis. These puddings may have some meat in them.
It was in the 18th century that the meat was removed. By the 19th century, it started to look like a cake. The dish is also believed to be a combination of custard from Europe and traditional American pudding. An English chemist, Alfred Bird, invented the custard powder. It is believed to be used by the Americans to thicken their desserts, ultimately giving rise to the modern-day pudding.
However, some traces of the dish have been noted in Asia as well. With custard, the development of a pudding-like recipe in the region has also been noted by several historians.
How To Make Bunny Pudding?
Ingredients:
Cranberry jelly:
• 1 cup cranberry juice, warm
• 2 teaspoons sugar
• 2 tablespoons gelatin
Milk pudding:
• 1 cup milk
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 2 to 3 drops of vanilla extract
• 1/2 tablespoon gelatin
Toppings:
• Strawberry ice cream
• White chocolate
• Chocolate pen
• 2 chocolate chips
• 1 heart dragée
Recipe:
• In a shallow pan, combine cranberry jelly ingredients. Allow to cool and firm up.
• In a bowl, combine milk pudding ingredients.
• Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out hearts from the firm cranberry jelly. Mash up the remaining jelly and place it in a tall glass. Position a heart in the glass. Pour in the milk pudding. Top with strawberry ice cream and add decorations to make a bunny face.
• Now that the Bunny Pudding is ready, serve it to the kids. Let them enjoy that sweet and tangy flavour of cranberry along with the creamy feel of the ice cream.
