It has been quite a few years since avocado became a rage in India. Even though avocados are not native to India, they are found here in small numbers and are called ‘makkhan fal’, because of its fatty content. Yes, avocados are source of fats but those are ‘good fats’, that actually make all the difference. Avocados, for the unversed are stone fruits, they are green in colour, and have a light green pulp that can be mashed together for delish preparations. Guacamole, or guac as it is informally known, is a spread, dip or salad made by mashing avocados with chillies, tomatoes, jalapenos, garlic and spring onions. It is one of the easiest recipes out there, and requires zero to no cooking. Hence, it is one of the things, you can try with your kids as well.

One of the first popular recipes for guacamole was published in the 1697 book, A New Voyage Round the World. Even though, it was not officially known as guacamole at the time, English privateer and naturalist William Dampier, in his visit to Central America during one of his circumnavigations, made a note of this interesting local preparation with avocados, sugar, and lime juice and created a sensation
