Sandwiches have won the hearts of food enthusiasts across the globe. These tasty treats are effortless to prepare, can be drenched in delectable sauces, and are always there to save the day when hunger strikes unexpectedly. Whether you're in need of a quick mid-day bite or a satisfying solution for those cravings, a hearty sandwich is a winner. What makes sandwiches truly remarkable is their adaptability to cater to individual taste preferences and their generally budget-friendly nature. But that's not always the case, especially at a New York eatery where their famous sandwich carries a staggering price tag of $214 (Rs 17,500). It may sound too good to be true, but it's not a joke!

In honour of National Grilled Cheese Day (April 12th), the high-end New York restaurant, Serendipity 3, has reintroduced its 'Quintessential Grilled Cheese' sandwich for a limited time. Although the sandwich had been absent from their menu for some time, the restaurant, which has held the Guinness World Record for the world's most expensive sandwich since 2014, took to Instagram to announce its grand return. "We are bringing back yet another Guinness World Record-winning dish for a limited time only," they declared. "On National Grilled Cheese Day (April 12th), S3 in New York will offer 'The Quintessential Grilled Cheese Sandwich' for $214, the sandwich that holds the Guinness World Record for the world's most expensive sandwich," the post read. Curious about the ingredients that go into crafting this history-making sandwich? The French Pullman Champagne Bread, made with Dom Perignon Champagne, is used as the base of the sandwich, which is then slathered with grass-fed white truffle butter. As per Serendipity 3's Instagram post, "The sandwich is filled with thick slices of rare Caciocavallo Podolico Cheese, made in Southern Italy from the milk of the Podolica cow, who grazes free-range, feeding on strongly aromatic grasses such as fennel, liquorice, juniper, laurel bay, and wild strawberries, infusing the milk with these sweet aromatic perfumes. There are only about 25,000 of these special cows, and they only lactate during May and June, making this cheese one of the finest and rarest in the world."

But wait, there's more! After the sandwich is expertly crafted, it is toasted to perfection, and its edges are luxuriously coated with 23-karat edible gold. It is then presented on a pristine Baccarat crystal plate, accompanied by a Baccarat glass brimming with South African lobster tomato bisque—an exquisite dipping sauce blended with crème fraîche and truffle oil. The mere thought of it is enough to pique the interest of anyone, isn't it?

The restaurant has made world records earlier as well. They have set records for their creation of the most expensive French fries, milkshakes, and desserts in the past.
